All the Afghan spinners have continued to live up to their expectations in the past one week of the Hundred by and large with their trademark signature skills.
Mujeeb-ur-Rahman have registered the most economic spell of the Hundred with 2/6
Mujeeb has bowled the most economical spell of the tournament when he ended up with figures of 2/6 off his four against the Spirits. London is clearly going through a rough patch losing a string of matches from winning situations. However Mujeeb & Adil have combined well to deliver tight spells for the Superchargers. The duo are making it tough for the opposition to dominate proceedings after the power play. Mujeeb has also managed to pick up a solitary wicket against the Invincibles without going for plenty.
Qais Ahmad is carrying the burden of Welsh Fire bowling over his shoulders
On the other hand, Qais has had a couple of good games against the Invincibles & Rockets, unfortunately in a losing cause. Clearly Welsh Fire is missing another quality spinner from the other end. The concept of churning two mystery spinners in tandem is working wonders at the Hundred. This has been one of the popular strategies adopted by Oval Invincibles apart from the Superchargers. Besides spin, Fires are also lacking good fast bowlers who can create an impact with pace and variations. Additionally, their batting is struggling in the absence of Bairstow.
In the game against Invincibles, Qais mixed his leg breaks with googlies and made Ingram struggle throughout. Eventually trapped him lbw & ended his four miserly sets with 1/12 without inducing further damage. Yesterday against the Rockets, Ahmad dished out another crucial spell of 2/23 thereby outshining his fellow senior pro Rashid Khan who had gone wicketless. In the process, he did get the wickets of Malan & Hales by outsmarting them with subtle effective variations.
Rashid Khan leading the wicket takers chart at the Hundred, Nabi’s batting continues to be a concern
Rashid also had a fabulous bowling run against the Phoenix where he grabbed 3/26 in another losing cause. Rashid is topping the bowling charts with Adil Rashid & Merchant de Lange with 8 wickets a piece & is looking good for more. Nabi however is clearly struggling with the bat. He was given ample opportunities at the top but has failed to close games for the Spirits. Although he has been quite effective preferably in the power play as an off spinner but could not impress much with the willow so far.
